Week 8 Response
From the diary of Francis Jefferson-White:
Tallahatchie County,
Mississippi,
I have a lead on that
moonshine running Michaela Mathers. She was selling to some men Friday after
payday and I tailed her up the mountain. I don’t think she noticed me, but I
had to stay pretty far behind so I didn’t see exactly where she’s got the shine
stashed. She’s almost as good with a shotgun as I am so getting close could’ve
been a problem.
The Sheriff thinks I’m
wasting my time. Ever since he found out my secret, he hasn’t taken any of my
suggestions seriously. He says he loves me; I wish he didn’t. If I’d wanted to
find a man to ignore me I could’ve stayed in Shuttle’s Pass. We had plenty of
those.
He doesn’t care about
what she’s been doing, but she and her boyfriend are dangerous. That kind of
thing wouldn’t have been tolerated back home. Mathers should understand what
side of this war she’s on. Taking up with someone like that won’t end well for
either of them.
I’m going up the mountain
to see if I can find out where she has her big stash tomorrow. If I bring the
Sheriff proof, he won’t be able to ignore me any longer. He’ll have to do
something about them before it gets out of hand.
Until tomorrow,
Francis
